Crews are finishing up work on Rainier Avenue S over the next several weeks. Final plantings are being installed and adjustments to traffic signals, signs, and the roadway surface are underway. As we move into the Thanksgiving weekend, we are thankful for your patience over the last two years as we've made improvements to Rainier Avenue S!
Thanks for your patience last week as crews installed final lane markings in the area of Grady Way and Rainier Avenue S. This work was weather dependent and crews had to take advantage of some rain-free days to install these markings for traffic lanes and crosswalks. Over the next several weeks, crews will do some additional markings on side streets (depending on the weather), and will continue installing plants in the medians.
This week crews will install final lane markings, which will require rolling shutdowns of traffic lanes. Traffic signals at intersections will also be placed in their final locations, and median curbs will continue to be installed.
Next week, crews will begin digging in the medians along Rainier Avenue S and installing median curbs. No additional lane restrictions will be required for this work. However, drivers will no longer be able to make left turns when exiting businesses and should use caution when traveling through the area.
The City of Renton is improving Rainier Avenue S from S Grady Way to S 2nd Street, resulting in a safer and more attractive corridor for vehicles and pedestrians. When completed, Rainier Avenue S will have wider sidewalks, landscaped planter strips and medians, upgraded street lighting and improved transit mobility. Several underground utilities will also be relocated, including gas, electricity and telecommunications.
